Hehe.. Well, not so altruistic. I just don't want it to happen again. I had the problem diagnosed for the second time a couple of months ago, but I was out of town and couldn't get it repaired. Since then, my first year AppleCare ran out. They agreed to fix it, since they'd diagnosed it well within the initial year, but if it happens again, I'm obviously screwed (unless it's within 90 days, I suppose).
I did consider buying the extended AppleCare, but money is an issue, and I honestly kind of resented the idea of buying 'warranty' for a recurring problem. That's not the purpose of warranty, imho. If it's a known problem—and the same problem I've already encountered twice—I shouldn't have to preemptively pay, up front, for its pending and inevitable 'repair'. That just amounts to me paying for the band-aid on their hardware problem.
